In early morning light power lines are hard to see and the movement of the diverter in the wind is detected by birds. Once in position, the diverter will not slide down the line and as it weighs only 160 gm does not affect sag.
Because the roundel swings out in a strong wind it produces very little windage.

This innovative device consists of
bright orange disc swinging from a strong snap clamp which can be
fitted to conductors with a hot stick from the ground.
Birds detect
the movement or colour of the disc and veer away preventing bird
strike. They have been used in Australia & NZ for 11 years years & USA & Europe for longer. They grip tightly to earth wires
or any size bare or covered conductor including aerial bundled cable.
They are suitable for conductors up to 132kv. They are made from
durable materials and will not deterioate in coastal areas and can
withstand cyclones.
